Atmosphere 7/10
Atmosphere feels a bit like a drinking hall, rather than a cocktail bar. But overall, it’s cool, lofty, and very casual. The backbar is normal-looking. It’s noticeably established with a lot of custom-made “Thunderbolt” design elements. The music is something between EDM, pop, and indie - but with good volume, allowing for a conversation.

Recommendation: Barcelonette
The bar is known for its carbonated cocktails. They have a ton of special equipment to facilitate the variety of carbonated cocktails. However, I will never give the highest scores for pre-mixed drinks (e.g. Tropipop), like Thunderbolt does. Even though they put extra effort into the customized canning process. There is 0 bartender skill involved, which is part of a great cocktail bar experience. Barcelonette was mixed by the bartender and tasted great though. Decent coasters.

I appreciate the high activity on Instagram (DMs), which allowed me to prepare for the visit. The team was very friendly and in a good mood. Water was served on the spot.

The service was great and drinks were absolutely delicious. We made lots of conversation with the bartender which definitely adds on to the higher rating. They recommended great drinks for us to try as well and seem very knowledgeable.

The pimento cheese poppers are a must too. Great snack!

Second time here. Once again amazing cocktails, food, and service. Wes this time served me an Eats, Shoots, Leaves to start before getting the fugwaa falsetto. Fried chicken biscuit and Mac n cheese. Will definitely be back again!

mentioned on every top cocktail bar list in los angeles and even on the 50best of north america, had high expectations for thunderbolt that fell kinda short. i praise them for all the inventive drinks and creativity with the menu but maybe the drinks we got weren’t for me. would come back to try other drinks but a little skeptical. loved the neighborhood bar feel though.

p-town boxing club: old fashioned riff but honestly plain compared to the kona street bar one in sf.

fu gwaa falsetto: took a risk with this one which didn’t pay off. liked the bitter melon flavor but not a fan of the larger format.

We enjoyed every moment at Thunderbolt. Wes and Tom were absolutely wonderful. They broke down the menu for us in detail and helped us decide what to drink next. They took care of us with each drink and catered to our tastes. We got a couple tasters as well, which exemplified their craftsmanship and generosity. This is a MUST GO if you’re in LA.

This is a place I’ve been wanting to go for a while. I work within the service industry, I am knowledgeable and have expectations, respectfully. This place blew my mind. The hospitality was fantastic, the cocktails were very well thought out and interesting. Cannot wait to come back. YOU GUYS ARE NAILING IT!
