THE LEGEND
Ages ago an Indian Town on Lake Wales lake was plagued with raids by a huge gator.
The town's great warrior Chief and the gator were killed in a final battle that created the huge swampy depression nearby. The chief was buried on its north side.
Later pioneer HAULERS coming from the old ARMY TRAIL atop the ridge above found their horses LABORING HERE...at the foot of the ridge..and called it Spook hill.
IS IT THE GATOR SEEKING REVENGE, OR THE CHIEF PROTECTING HIS LAND?
Stop car on white line, place in neutral and let it roll back.

This place is awesome!! Located in Lake Wales, Florida. The car goes backward up the hill( not the one in front of the car). You pull up to the white line, put the car in neutral & it will go backward up the hill you just came down. No ticket needed.

Ahh ok, so you read the sign and it tells you about some Gator and an Indian chief. And then you are told to put your car in neutral and let it roll backwards. So you parked on a hill and you did indeed roll backwards. How is that spooky? Go to Bok Tower while you’re here, Spook Hill is pretty lame. 3 stars is the best I can say.

It was a nice area.. but we had to drive through the ghetto first 🫤😳 then we kept trying the myth of your car rolling 😔 it just rolls down hill like what it's supposed to do.. maybe it didn't work for us because we had to keep stopping because spook hill is actually a public road so there was so much traffic

This is a fun spot, if you read the sign: the hill spooked horses, the horses of the American pioneers (I'm guessing 1840s or 1850s). The explanation: a legendary battle between an Ancestral Seminole and a giant alligator: the warrior is buried there and the spirit haunts the hill, spooking horses and others. That's what the sign says. So you put your car in neutral and your car backs away, respecting the ancient battle. Its a fun legend and gives meaning to the landscape. In a Florida overdeveloped with the new, its a reminder of older heritage. Enjoy

I wanted to check this place out because I saw it on places to visit in Florida, but I was expecting more. It is just a road with a hill that says spooky hill. Has houses and school around the area. The school mascot might be Casper lol since it's on their bulletin board. Still a kinda cool spot just to see.

A very quick "attraction" you can do under 5 minutes and the kids had a total blast reading the legend and watching the car roll back

Lived in Florida for 42 years and this was the first time to Spook Hill.

Thought that when you stopped at the white line the car is suppose to go up the hill but it actually goes backwards. Guess I should have read the sign better. LOL. It actually took us all the way back to the sign and stopped.

Nothing special but now I can say that I have gone through and experienced it. Good for family bonding but the kids will be bored.
