I used to really enjoy shopping here, but after consistently dealing with rude staff and an awful return policy, I’ve decided it’s just easier to shop online. It’s frustrating to buy a sealed record only to find it skips immediately, multiple times also. I understand there’s a risk with open records but these were sealed. I’d rather spend my money somewhere that allows returns on defective products—most other places do. I truly love this store, but I’m tired of wasting money. Maybe consider switching suppliers, because this just isn’t normal. And no, there’s nothing wrong with my turntable or needles. Why would anyone buy anything without buyer protection? Not anymore. It was sad changing my review from 5 to 2 stars. This is the reason record stores are dying, customers need buyer protection

Best and only place in Tampa to find a huge selection of new and old records, vintage stereo equipment and speakers. They also repair and service vintage stereo equipment. Excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly staff.

Love this place my only qualm is that they don’t add a lot of new records or cds. I visited many times and it is the same selection. I always see the buyback counter full of records so hopefully they’ll get some new things on the floor soon.

This review is strictly on the buildings upkeep and appearance…. To the owner please paint the building. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, is this the original paint. Why not be the best looking store in the plaza instead of fading into it ? More often then not the air conditioner is broken or working at 20% the employees deserve better as they are always helping and friendly. Your loyal customers also deserve better. Just today we visited. Air broken, door open and the place reeks of cigarette smoke 🤮 I couldn’t not finish shopping due to the smell and temperature.

Sound Exchange Tampa is one of my favorite stores! I have been going for many years, I can spend hours in there. I aways find plenty of movies, CDs, and records and I love that they have box sets behind the counter to view. I never have any issues asking for help viewing items behind the register. Staff likes to discuss movies and music and I think it is cool that they have a stack of free posters by the door. Best place in town for physical media, great selection and good prices.

DO NOT SELL YOUR RECORDS OR CDs HERE…

I brought about 50 records and CDs to this place to sell. So I filled out all the info and was told that the ā€œrecord dealerā€ wasn’t in today and wouldn’t be in till tomorrow (lie number one). So they told me that the CDs could be done today but the records later. I said okay and left. I got back home only about 15 mins away then I get a call saying my CDs were done. I said okay I’ll just come back when the records are done too instead of driving back and forth. The guy said ā€œthat’s not our policy but I guess we can…we usually do the same day for CDsā€. Fast forward a couple hours later they call me again saying the records were done and they have an offer. So the record dealer just magically showed up. I then decided to drive back and I get there just for them to give me back all my CDs back because they had ā€œcondition issuesā€ that crazy because I just relooked at them and the discs weren’t in bad shape. (Lie number 2). Then the best part is when I go to the record lady and she tells me I can have $4.25 for like 6 of my records🤣 she said the rest are warped. I said okay I’ll just take it all back. She then says ā€œyou’ll have to pay a $5 feeā€ 🤣🤣

So if you want to waste your time and get absolutely scammed and taken advantage of right in front of your face I recommend this place. Otherwise, just have a yard sale you’ll literally make more money and waste less time than going to this joke of a business.

LOVE this place. I’m a big classic rock nerd at 18 years old. I called the store ahead and asked if it was ok to take my senior photos here. The manager answered the phone and said it was absolulty fine and it would be a pleasure. Once we arrived I wasn’t sure because the outside of the store was a bit dumpy looking, still interesting though. I think it was mainly the area.
We walked in and it felt like heaven. We again talked the the owner and he said let him know if we wanted some people in the back or clear it out. Very nice. The inside of the store is bigger compared to how it looks on the out. They had vinyl of new and old. All gernes. Mostly variations of rock. They also sold vintage record players, 8tracks, CDs, cassettes, and more. The walls were filled with posters. Had an absolute wonderful time. The prices are reasonable too. The day I went the store was celebrating 33 1/3 anniversary of being open, and giving free stickers out. Loved the history and how nice everyone was, and of course the store and sales itself.
Will defiantly be retuning! It’s my favorite record store I’ve ever been too, and I’ve been collecting 3 years
