The staff at this REI are always really chill and super helpful, however one in particular stands above the rest - and her name is Larisa! My partner and I went to purchase a new tent + sleeping bag and she was so incredibly helpful. She made it a really fun experience and let us test out various options for at least an hour to make sure we felt comfortable with our decision. She also was super informative about alternative options and had great recommendations. When we left, we both said "wow that was the most fun we've had at REI!" - thanks for being such an awesome human Larisa!

A good collection of outdoor activity gear and apparel. It covers a broad range of activities with a large selection, however, the items are neither the best available nor the worst- it's middle of the road for almost everything. Bonus points for being dog friendly and having a super helpful staff- this is one of the better locations, at the Collection in Oxnard.

REI is a great outdoor clothing and gear store. This one has a lot of great space, but the upper level is high, and strangely obscured from view. The lower gear heavy level is also laid out unusually. Make sure you go upstairs for shoes and clothing. Some areas are lightly stocked compared to other stores. I understand seasonal differences, but camping is a year-round activity in CA.

Bike repair shop was a terrible experience. Had to come 3 times and the price went from $44 to $76 to $300+ to true a wheel. After I canceled the repair work they lost my valve when I came to pick it up. The planned to order a new valve which took a week to arrive but then canceled that order when they found my original valve a week later. Clueless mess of bike shop. Ended up doing the repair for a few dollars in parts.

The shop always takes great care of my board when I prep for snowboarding season. Had a pair of dual boa step on snowboard boots that Mike repaired just in time for my trip. He went above and beyond to keep me updated on its progress and what to do in case anything else happened while I was on the mountain in Mammoth. This whole experience sold me on finally becoming a member 🙂

Abby in footwear was so very helpful to us. We've found it difficult to get shoes even at other REIs and her knowledge of the different brands and types of shoes was excellent.

At some point she went for a lunch break but then came right back out to help people given her experience was needed.

I hope she's given some rewards other than just more responsibilities. Thanks Abby!

REI is one of my favorite places to just walk in to, much less shop at... but God knows I've dropped serious $$ here over the years!
I started shopping at the Santa Rosa REI back in 2002 after going to mountaineering school in the Marines. Back then REI was the ONLY place you could get rope, carbiners, cams, call bags, gloves, harnesses.... hell, basically anything for the mountain!
So all these years later it's still the only place I go for snow gear, biking, climbing, running, camping, and everything in between. Thank you REI for giving me the tools I needed in the Marine Corps for nearly 20 years, and now the tools I need to live an adventurous life!

SOLO patrons BEWARE. This store profiles its customers and doesn't help or engage with solo patrons (specifically women). I was in this REI from 11:30 until 12:40 on Sunday. I've been here before and was generally ignored but i blew it off. Today I went back - as I am going on the Everest Base Camp Hike and I needed to get a few things and possibly one replacement item (Backpack). I was in store for almost an hour and NOT ONE SINGLE EMPLOYEE SPOKE TO ME. NOT ONE. I was trying to reach a backpack and the two employees (one male dark hair, one female heavy set) stood at the big backpack table and chatted away, watching me struggle to reach the pack. (I'm 5ft) About 10 minutes into this process a couple (male/female) walked up to backpacks and the two employees bee-lined it right to them. I gave up and went over to the water filter systems - i had three different items trying to compare - i looked around for help. NO ONE. I then went upstairs to get new boot laces. Again not one single employee engaged. I went to look at waterproofing spray and again nothing. Took my basket downstairs and was looking for check out and asked for another item - guy walked right past me. That was it. I put the bag on the floor and walked out. Won't be back.
