Dr. Lonnie Myers, Superintendent
We attended the Mt. Home High School graduation ceremonies May 25 to watch our Great Nephew, Allen Miller, graduate. Allen has Duchene muscular dystrophy and received his diploma while in his powered wheelchair. Words cannot adequately describe our feelings of pride as we watched the activities. In a couple words, we were totally impressed!
I am aware that during Allen’s school years many adjustments and conditions had to be made in order for him to be allowed to attend in the mainstream of the system. The ramps to the stage were no doubt added work and expense, but looked as if they belonged there. Again, words fall short, but May God Bless you and your entire staff and school system for making that happen.
The entire evening ceremony was simply wonderful. While the graduates did show their wish to start celebrations early that evening, I was proud to see your staff maintain control without being overly aggressive. Both staff and students being well-dressed are also appreciated, since nowadays the trend seems to be “anything goes”. The respectful demeanor of the students was apparent and not something I see everywhere these days. Also, a big GOOD FOR YOU! was echoed in the stands as your students were allowed to offer praise to God and Jesus Christ for all the world to hear. If we ever lose that right, we are no longer a Great Nation in my opinion. Besides the beautiful football field with its artificial turf, your entire School facility is one of which you can be most proud.
Again, thank you for all you have done for Allen and for other students like him. Allen's condition has now reached the point of his not being able to raise his arms to feed himself, but continues to maintain a cheerful and positive attitude.
Again, THANK YOU AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.
