absolutely INSANE markups on all products. putting pictures of just one example, but not a single tcg item in the store is anywhere near market value. especially when every other game/tcg store I've been to in the tampa area is reasonably priced and has more friendly staff.
EDIT: just adding to say, they responded and made me laugh. my review wasn't for sealed product. it's like they didn't read a thing I said. they respond by saying the markup is for a shipping fee, but i'm in-store, and i went to another shop immediately after and got the cards i wanted for market price. they also didn't read that i DID ask them to lower the price. I put that in the caption of the image. and even in the response they offered to lower by a dollar, which would still be 2.50 over market value. NOT TO MENTION even if they're "matching" scalper prices (which is fine for sealed product, i get it) most of their sealed product is MORE THAN scalper pricing. i'll never return to this shop again when there's so many better options in the area.

I read the other reviews on here and my experience was quite different. I’ve been in a few times this year and each time the staff have always been helpful and polite.

I do think some of the pricing on cards is a tad marked up but certainly nothing that struck me as unreasonably high (for example, a pack of cards on Amazon is $12 and they have it listed at $14)— they do after all have to maintain a brick and mortar location. Unlike online purchasing, you get the benefit of taking your purchase home same day and inspecting it. You also don’t risk shipping damages. For me, the benefits of this outweigh the slight mark up cost.

I can’t speak to the card game in store events as I have not tried them out.

Edit to their subpar reply which proves my point exactly... What theft if I literally said to you to give the kid another pack of cards and bill it to me when I was done shopping? You proved with this response how little you value your customers and how terrible your customer service is. I will gladly keep on shopping at Shu Shus card shop. At least they respect their customers and don't rip people off!

Very disappointed in the staff. The prices are usually above market which is ok by me. I don't mind paying up to save a trip to other card shops. I already know I'm over paying.
But the owners son is very rude even after spending a significant amount of money in the store. Acting like I'm not going to purchase a $15 dollar pack of cards for a kid to enjoy the hobby. I noticed the kid only bought one pack so I wanted him to have a second. I said give him a second pack on me and cash me out when I'm done, as I was still choosing what pack and cards to purchase. Then just give him the pack and don't make the situation tense by demanding I pay for a single pack of cards before the kid left. Like you don't know me already and my purchasing habits? The attitude the owners son has sucks and he should learn better customer service and appreciation for repeat customers. SHU SHU card shop is where I'll keep going from now on! They price everything fair to market and the owner knows how to treat his customers.

I used to shop here frequently, but unfortunately, it has turned into a scalper shop. The prices are ridiculously high, even when they claim to be charging "market" rates(which they aren't even close to). On top of that, the staff is incredibly rude—especially the older guy, who seems to have zero personality or social skills. It's disappointing to see how this place is being run. Whoever is in charge should take a good, hard look at how they operate before they drive away even more loyal customers.

Honestly liked this place a lot before. I was able to go find some pretty good games there. However, the repeatedly rudeness from the employees and the insane markup on card products compared to other businesses in the area is insane. I’ve also heard stories from friends of them marking up tournament prices up to $300 if you’re not a regular which is insane. The manager seems nowhere to be found. The employees tempers are unchecked and when asked what their PokĆ©mon card selection was. I was told that he was going to read them all out and then when I asked proceeded to tell me there wasn’t that many. I think this a good store, they just have to completely change their staff. Until then, this is one of the saddest card and video game institutions I have ever been to and you’re better off never stepping foot in here or going to a competitors store.

Absolutely never come here under any circumstances, horrible staff and horrendous prices. Came in with a PS3 and a psp with multiple games for each and offered 75 store credit and 65 cash for what by itself the psp would be worth that. On top of the rumors the weigh cards and the fact the owner of the shop looks at the customers with predatory intentions, I should’ve listened to the people who initially said this is the worst shop, but now I know and can say with confidence never, ever go to monster games! Edit: Nick is the name of the worker. Edit 2: Lied on both me and my girlfriend’s review in their response. Shows the quality of the people that work here šŸ™‚ (sold the psp for 75 by itself on Facebook marketplace)

This place is Great. If a 1 star review was top tier this place would be world class. Everything is over priced to the point where you might think that the owner takes his customers for morons. But, it gets better. The customer service is beyond the worst thing here. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values good customer service and fair prices. Hopefully they knock ot down and turn it into a tax collection agency, that way you at least know its a screw job beofre you walk in.

*Updated Review* :
I usually don’t write these, but based on my personal experience at this establishment, the employee/owner (not sure which) working on 1/25/25 was unwelcoming, unprofessional, and blatantly rude.

When I walked in, I wasn’t greeted. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes, we asked the worker if he had a certain kind of PokĆ©mon card and showed him a picture on the phone. He abruptly said, ā€œNo,ā€ barely glancing at the image. We then asked to see the binder of PokĆ©mon cards, as no one else was actively looking at it. The worker grabbed a binder from under the counter and basically threw it onto the desk for us to look at without saying a word. After browsing through the $10-and-under binder, we politely asked if we could see the other binder, since no one else was using it, but were told, ā€œNo.ā€ At that point, we decided to leave.

After writing the initial review, the owner responded and claimed that the binder belonged to a child. However, that didn’t seem to be the case at all. The child was picking out cards from the binder and showing them to the employee, and we even heard the child’s mom say that he could only get two cards that day.The worker/owner took no responsibility or accountability and instead deflected by saying it was the child’s binder. If that were true, he could have simply told us, ā€œThat binder isn’t ours; it’s actually his,ā€ which isn’t difficult to communicate—especially to customers who were interested in spending money and time at the store. We would have understood if the worker had just explained that the binder didn’t belong to the store and moved on. Instead, every question we asked was met with a cold ā€œNo.ā€

Once again, in my opinion, it’s best to avoid spending your time and money at this store because the service is terrible.
