Hello, this email is for the manager. My son Rowen, along with his 2 friends, chose these complex apartments to be their first place to leave off campus, they were very excited to move in until today. First, who in their right mind set only one day for everybody to move in, it was chaos in the lease office, long lines to pick up the keys and long waiting, the volunteers were running around like chickens without their heads. There were a lot of parents and students with complaints. When it was my son's turn to show his folder and get his key, they couldn't find his key, they told him to sit down and wait and took his folder. After 20 minutes waiting, Jordan came to us and asked if there was anything that he could help us with because he noticed we were sitting there for a while waiting. My son told him the situation and he immediately went to see what's going on with my son's key, he came back right away with the folder and key, we said Thank you and went on our way up to his apartment. Needless to say, when we left the office premises, the hallways and elevators were trashed, dirty and smelled awful. So, we went up, hallways are disgusting, the door that directs to the parking garage from the 3rd floor hallway was full of trash all over the floors. Finally when we arrived at their apartment, the keys did not work, after several trips to the office to get the keys to work, one of my son's friends, Mom , came back with one of the volunteers to open the apartment. Another disappointment, the apartment was trash. The walls were dirty, floors dirty, it was disgusting, I don't believe for a minute that the manager of this place will let his/her kids stay in a place like that. As a Mom, I didn't want to leave my son in a place like that, my son's bedroom was unleavable, since it was under repair, the sink was out in the bedroom, and supposedly the bathroom had a leak. At this point my son did not have a place to stay. I had to go because I was carpooling with another family from Huntsville and they were leaving around that time. My heart was broken thinking that I was leaving my son in a place like that. After I left, about one hour later, my son called me and said "great news Mom", they said we were in the wrong apartment and they took us to the right one and it is very nice and absolutely looks like an apartment. I was relieved by the news and at ease. He said when he and his friends were getting settled, two more students showed up saying that was their apartment, my son and his friends were puzzelded because theirs is a 4 bedroom apartment and there were the 3 of them and 2 more students?, did not make sense. Once again, they had to call somebody to figure it out. Once more, my son called me and told me "I have bad news", my heart sink, because at this point I was one hour away, he proceeded to tell me that they told him that, they have to moved back to the trashy apartment because these two students were in the right of stay in this other apartment. That's when my son and the other 2 roommates put their foot down and said they are not going back to the other place. After a long day and frustrations, disappointments, they placed my son and his friends in a hotel until Friday when they could move to an apartment newly renovated, according to the leasing office. This was the worst experience ever. These will go to the reviews for The Lofts, and I will send a letter to the BBB in Tuscaloosa.

Update, October 2024: I had hoped with new management (Greystar) that conditions would improve. They did not. My son is sitting in his apartment with no air conditioning tonight in 90 degree heat because the maintenance people barged in, uninvited, and they tore up their WORKING AC unit, that was previously absolutely fine, then left it in shambles. Just left. With the AC now broken. The managers, as usual, won’t do anything to help.
They also ripped their inside deadbolt off their door and told them that’s so they can come in any time they want (even if they’re home alone or not dressed.)
Oh. And a couple months ago the apartment employees barged in and started screaming at them that they (my son and his roommate) weren’t the actual renters and that they had stolen the apartment and demanded they get out immediately. (They later admitted their mistake but did not make amends.)
I wish I were making this up. This is just a public service message for anyone thinking of letting their child rent a unit here.

My son and his roommate live in BLACK MOLD despite months of complaints. Also they promised me they would get $750 worth of gift cards ($500 for signing up and $250 for inconvenience ). Months have gone by and nothing. I have called, emailed, tried to show up at the office which is often closed in business hours. The kids have done their due diligence trying to solve the problems as well. There are multiple other problems with the apartment. Including flooding dishwasher, broken microwave, the halls stink of garbage, nasty sewage smells. It’s awful because they advertise it as a nice place. And it’s simply been one awful thing after another. They also tacked a lot of hidden fees in the contract that they did not tell us about, even though I asked what is the total, bottom line amount for the unit. One star is too much.
Also the gated entrance is often broken. And the halls smell like trash. Most of the time. And the little game room you see pictures of? Unusable.
Edited to add that the last time I visited there was weeks old dried vomit in the hall that you had to walk through just to get to their apartment. Trash still piled up in the halls and on the grounds. This is months after new management GreyStar took over.
I see that The Loft has replied to my review. Telling me to contact them. HA! I have called and called and emailed and emailed. I cannot count how many times.

Maintenance here is horrible and lazy it took them 4 months and multiple maintenance requests before they actually fixed my dishwasher/replaced it. Now my washing machine and dryer doesn’t work and I’ve put in a maintenance request and I’m having the same issues they just mark stuff as completed and that everything is working. I have had so many issues with maintenance they I hate to put maintenance request in because stuff doesn’t get done. Maintenance marked my request for washing machine/dryer as completed and that it was working perfectly fine about 9am this morning, well it’s not, so I called front office staff and talked to them about situation and they put another work order in. And they told me due to holiday hours that maintenance was not going to be back until Friday because they had already left for the day. To me personally that is not right or fair to me because if they would have just done there job right the first time when they originally came then I wouldn’t even have to run around trying to get them to fix it. It’s ridiculous how the maintenance here is. The management and front desk staff is very nice and helpful though and I have never had an issue with them.

The worst place I have lived ever in my life. The management is so uncoordinated. They are nice to you but no real help at all. There is no consistency in the pricing of rent and fees. But the worst of everything is just the condition of the apartments itself. The hallways are absolutely disgusting, trash bags everywhere, urine and vomit in the hallways, roaches and rats everywhere. Just absolutely unlivable, i'm moving out early. Our apartment has been infested with roaches and had to set traps everywhere as well as make our own roach spray, we had sent in multiple matinence requests with only one response. When we first moved in nothing was clean there was dirt and bugs everywhere and the floors were matted and black. We still have a cracked door that was never fixed, and a broken fridge. It is so hard to live here because of how thin the walls are you can hear every little sound that is happening outside especially the indescribedly loud train. It's incredibly dangerous area with there being visible bullet holes in glass windows on floors 4&5 without a peep from the management to the tenants on the floor. To save your sanity please for the love of god do not live here, especially as a UA student. No matter how cheap it is, it will never be worth it. I was heavily deceived during my tour, please check these reviews and do not fall for it or you will be miserable- a disappointed college student

Don’t understand how there are any good reviews for this place (they are paid reviews). Absolutely disgusting, roach and rat infested with dog poop in the hallways. The management is absolutely terrible and unprofessional. They will find any and all ways to charge you more money. If you have a problem after hours you’re honestly screwed because the after hour maintenance is not a thing with them. We were locked out of our apartment ALL night with no help and had to sleep in our cars. Ended up getting in the next day by ourselves and maintenance finally came TWO DAYS LATER to change our locks. It is insanely unsafe for someone that cannot protect themselves, I was counting down the days until move out day JUST to get charged $500 with no proof of damage to the room. I was owed a $300 gift card and my roommates were owed $1000 and you could probably guess we never got that even though it states it on my lease. I’m surprised they aren’t shut down by now. The city of tuscaloosa has been all over the Lofts for forever so please do your research before moving here. And not to mention what just happened at the Lofts recently leading to gun shots. There’s constantly cops and fire trucks outside at night (should tell you what you need to know right there) so I didn’t think twice about it, later to figure out someone has been shot. And God forbid you need to speak with a manager because you can’t speak with her unless you set up an appointment because THAT MANY people have complaints they need to speak with her about. And God forbid you have an issue with what they are charging you because you might as well kiss all your money goodbye.

I came in undecided on what I wanted, but Quiana was amazing. She listed all amenities and led me on an amazing tour. Super friendly and very knowledgeable. 10/10 I highly recommend to all students.

There are so many distasteful things about this complex but if I had to say anything it would be, if you want your student to have a focused, relaxing, happy, and healthy school year. DON’T move them here there will always be an issue with this apartment complex apart from the constant feeling of not being safe, filthy hallways, filthy elevators, and filthy elevator lobbys etc. Every crevisce of the complex has a smell. The nicest place on the entire property is the leasing office funnily enough.
