Great place for a tranquil hike around the beautiful Lake Sommerville. Nicely maintained trails and very friendly and helpful park rangers. Today's sunset hike had perfect weather, sunny & 60°, and we didn't see anyone else on the trail.

Nice camping area and very well set up for equestrian riding with good trails, we used for hiking, and great pins for horses at each site. The boat ramp area was very nice and even had an outdoor shower to rinse off or clean up. The Rocky Point day use area was excellent for putting in canoes and kayaks as well as general swimming for kids, with shallower lake bottom so we didn’t have to worry as much about them. The Saturday park staff up front was great and friendly as well as the staff member who gave a talk on the local animals.

This is one of the nicest state parks I've been to in Texas. I only went for a day hike but I got to see a lot of the amenities and there are plenty of bathrooms and showers.

The lake is unbelievably beautiful and very clean.

The hiking trails are really pretty and full of wildlife. There are lots of types(?) of hike. There are lakeside trails, deep forest trails, open meadows, etc.

It is dog friendly as long as they are on a leash.

There's also horse trails and mountain biking trails.

For 4 bucks a person, you can't beat it. It's gorgeous.

It was a nice camping experience, the place is nice and quiet (gets little scary at night due to howling of wolves and sound of walking of armadillos). The sky is clear (without light pollution as it is far from city) which makes watching stars fun. The picnic area have a nice lake view, clean restroom. They have a long hiking route and on the hiking route saw some armadillos, deers, wolf, snakes (had to be careful). For someone wondering about entry cost: $4 per adult and $20 per camp site (with electricity) - per day.

Incredibly serene and quiet. The lake was low, so no fishing without a boat, but spectacular scenery. Lots of deer roaming around. The campsites are generously sized for camping, trailers or RVs. Power and water included. I imagine in the warmer months it's even more picturesque.

We fell in love with this park. The lake is perfect for wading, swimming, fishing, and boating. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained with hot water and quality soap.
We had a lovely day and will be coming back soon.

Great place too camp with family but the one that I can recommend is too keep all the restrooms sprayed, we ran into quite a few scropions in the showers and some of the stalls. Pretty good size ones. We went back the next day and they were still in there.

All Texas State Parks are a jewel. Interesting that this park accommodates horses at the individual camp sites. Small but clean
