October is a great wildflower month and while many have starting to peter-out, there was plenty to see. I stuck to the hard packed campground road and stayed high and dry. Tried one of the spurs to the hiking trails on the way back and found it still had some flooded parts, but was dry enough beside the trail to walk around those spots.

Saw a gopher tortoise, barred owl, lots of song birds, 4 hefty deer, and some bugs.

This is a great area to take a hike or walk/run on the trails. It is primitive so no restrooms. There is a building with a covered area for picnicking. The trails are flooded during the rainy season.

For free camping this is a nice campground. Fire pits, picnic tables, pavilions for rainy days. Beautiful sunsets towards a field with cows and a hee haw donkey! There is a portalet , no showers. Pack in and pack out. This part of SWFWM, and one of the nicest ones. Friendly camp hosts, lots of trails to hike too. Right by the Withlachatoochie river. State Park is right there. Secure, must make online reservations and it is locked with a code they change regularly. There is also backpack camping as well. A good place for a relaxing getaway.

Very nice area with 2 primitive camp grounds and many hiking trails. Camp grounds and other areas do not have potable water so make sure to bring it. The Florida Trail runs through with hills and pine forests. There's a boy scout cabin as well on the river that you can get to. Lots of mosquitoes and horse flies year round, be prepared for that. Really a beautiful stretch of wilderness.

First visit. Pleasant 7 mile hike. A few ankle deep wet spots but nothing major. Didn't see much wildlife.

This preserve is absolutely beautiful! There is cattle near by and their field is perfect for viewing the amazing sunsets. My husband and I loved walking the trails every evening. The only reason I did not give this particular spot a five star rating is because of the people with horses. This particular sight is for those that are in to equestrian as well. Even though I love horses, their owners are quite rude (at least the ones we have ran into). They tend to "piggyback" on each others reservations (their words, not mine), which means they are taking sites that are for people with actual reservations. They leave the horse feces all over the sites and they have even been seen dumping their own black and grey water tanks ( It smells so bad and attracts bugs). So, if you go and the equestrians are there, I suggest finding somewhere else to camp. Other than that....just beautiful!
