We went to SpecOps Live Play in Oakdale, Ca with our Calvary Chapel Modesto’s Young Adults/College Group Friday, April 28, 2023. There was 14 of us that made perfect teams of 7. I’ve never played laser tag before in the 43yrs I’ve been on this earth, and didn’t know what I was in for… Our 2 instructors (I wish I remembered their names) were fantastic. They explained everything to us perfectly and was very helpful and willing to explain it again when asked (I was nervous, so I asked a lot of questions). The games we played were awesome. The battle field has many different hiding places and attack zones. All the equipment worked well and was clean. I definitely enjoyed this experience way more than I thought I would, and highly recommend SpecOps Live Play!

The only “complaint” I would say is signage when you arrive to know you’re there and marked parking. My husband and I drove through the property looking for SpecOps and made circles around the area until I finally noticed the single sign on the little rust red building/hut up on the hill that let me know we were in the correct place.

(Used my dads account to post this)
This was so much fun!! They’re so nice and funny! 😂 The guns are such high quality and it’s not like a random place to play
It’s outside, a big space with trees platforms and more places to hide
At night it’s more fun cause it’s dark
But they still let you see with two lights!
And you don’t have to wear like a vest, it’s just a little rubber necklace strap with censors.
Over all I loved it and so did my friends!! 😁😁

What a great concept! The playing field has some great features, a lot of buildings, places to hide and camouflage. The facility is decent but with a little work and sprucing up the gathering area could totally rock! The staff was informative and enthusiastic. Maybe a little less banter with each other and more interaction with guests. The new equipment will be awesome once they get the bugs worked out. Nice variety of games from intro to involved last man standing warfare. Some instructions were pretty involved. Overall, great experience. Yes, I do recommend and will go back!

Have booked 3 birthday parties here and my boys have always had a great time! All of our guests had a blast! The heat was no joke today but took lots of water breaks.

SpecOps Live Play is hands down the BEST laser tag experience I’ve ever had by far. Henceforth I refuse to play it any other way.

In normal, lame laser tag, you get this bulky, often too tight harness and you run around a dark, sweaty, black light maze, and if you get shot once you’re out for a few seconds and have to run and hide.

But at SpecOps, you get this big outdoor course, like a map out of Call of Duty. It’s surrounded by trees and has all sorts of wooden structures and buildings, lots of debris and stuff like crates and barrels to duck behind.

And your laser actually has ammo and two firing modes: semi-automatic (single-shot) and fully-automatic. And you have to reload every so often. Your laser also shows you your game stats, so you can check your hits, kills, and deaths, both for the current match and the whole session.

Your sensors aren’t attached to a harness, they’re attached to a sort of cord/necklace that comes from your laser. One hangs down by your sternum, one is at the base of your neck on your back, and another one is on your laser, making it all super lightweight and allowing for greater mobility.

And you actually have a health meter, so you can take quite a few hits before you die, and then (depending on the gametype) you have to run back to your team’s respawn box to come back. When you run out of ammo completely, that’s also how you refill your laser.

There were four different game types we played: One is team deathmatch, and the other is like team deathmatch meets freeze tag, where if you die you have to stay where you are and wait for a teammate to come up to you to revive you, and then you run back to respawn and you’re back in the game.

The third is like King of the Hill, but there’s an object in the center of the map that you have to shoot at in order for your team to control, and obviously whichever team controls it the longest wins.

The final game type was a sudden death free-for-all. Everyone is against each other, and if you die you’re out for good (I won).

It’s also a great workout.

Overall, best laser tag experience around, and I hope I get the opportunity to play again soon.
